And trying to compete with the big boys for keywords such as “weight loss” just isn’t going to happen, well, not this year anyway.
So, you need to figure out what keywords people are looking for, for which there is little competition, so your site and pages rank at the top of Google very quickly.
Now, you can do it the old-fashioned way,
and use Google’s Keyword Tool to figure out what terms have enough traffic and Yahoo Site Explorer to check how competitive they are.
Or, you can take the lazy route and …
… use an internet marketing tool for this … and why not use a fantastic new FREE keyword research tool?
Some people (including myself) use Market Samurai because it is (IMO) pretty much the most complete internet marketing tool when it comes to keyword research, competition analysis and automated monetization of what you’ve found. (incidentally, they give you a free trial, well worth checking out, BUT: only download this when you’re ready to actually do some serious keyword research).
But, if
- all you want to do is figure out what the competition is and don’t fancy going back to Yahoo Site explorer for each keyword (times each of the top 10 sites in Google) AND
- you don’t mind that it is limited to Google (let’s be honest here: the vast majority of traffic comes from Google anyway, so getting those numbers will give you a pretty decent forecast of what to expect in “the real world” when building a list and then using Jeff Walker’s product launch formula to launch your next product or site)
then, I highly recommend you check out Ryan Deiss’ free new (not many things are better than FREE internet marketing tools;-) so-called Cherry Picker seo-tools:
This little piece of internet marketing software nothing super-fancy, all it does is take any keyword you type in, and then in real-time find out what the competition (in terms of backlinks etc) is in the top 10, 20 or 50 of Google.
In other words: if you just want a quick overview over the competition so you can figure out quickly which keywords to go after, this keyword research tool will give you exactly the information you need very quickly, nothing more, nothing less.
The nice thing about this is that — unlike Market Samurai where you have to set up a new tab for each keyword and then press a bunch of buttons,here you just type in the keyword at the top, and you’re off.
Now, one “limitation” is that it only gives you results for Google.
Let me put it this way: my search-engine optimization is pretty good and here’s the odd thing: although I don’t do things specifically for Google, when I do what is considered “good” search engine optimization, then I tend to rank really well on Google, but not on Yahoo or Bing…
So, how does this help super-charge Jeff Walker’s Product Launch Formula?
The Cherry Picker is plenty good enough for a quick analysis if a certain keyword is a good candidate for you to drive traffic to your squeeze page, so you can build your list and then use all the might of product launch formula to provide maximum value to that list (… and, ok, make a bunch of money in the process;-)
